Hobonichi started as a lifestyle website “Hobo Nikkan Itoi Shinbun,” [Almost Daily Itoi Newspaper] in 1998 featuring “almost-daily” essays by founder and editor-in-chief, Shigesato Itoi, who is well known for other ventures including game design and songwriting. In 2001, the Hobonichi Techo [planner] was launched after positive response from readers when asked if they would purchase a techo by the brand if developed. Since then, the Hobonichi lineup has grown from 1 to 7 types, with some being available in Japanese, English, and Chinese, and has sold over 10 million copies over the world.

• These geometric patterns in pastel colors are actually based on Tanabata decorations from long ago. This design is accented with red lines that appear as threads. The leaves and layers of paper give this design so much to offer that you'll never tire looking at it. The back of the book is a blue-green to match the leaves on the front.
